Mainland Chinese solar shares rallied strongly on the morning of November 5. Huatai-PineBridge CSI Photovoltaic Industry ETF (515790), the master ETF listed in Shanghai in which this fund invests, was up 6.47% at 10:44, while equipment and materials names including Autowell, Laplace and Lyric Robot gained more than 11%. According to National Energy Administration data, China added about 38.76GW of solar capacity in the third quarter of 2026, up roughly 38% from 28.06GW a year earlier. On the supply side, Baiinfo expects domestic polysilicon output of 87,200 tonnes in November, down 9,700 tonnes or about 10% from October's 96,900 tonnes, with industry utilisation expected to stay around 31%.

Southern Solar (03134.HK) is a feeder fund whose investment objective is to closely track the CSI Photovoltaic Industry Index; through the manager's QFI status and/or Stock Connect, it invests at least 90% of net asset value in the Huatai-PineBridge CSI Photovoltaic Industry ETF listed in Shanghai. The index selects no more than 50 securities from the Shanghai and Shenzhen markets whose businesses involve the photovoltaic supply chain, spanning wafers, polysilicon, cells, modules, inverters and solar glass. The product was the first ETF launched under the Shanghai-Hong Kong ETF cross-listing scheme, listed on June 1, 2021, with a management fee of 0.99% per year and a board lot of 100 units.

Huayuan Securities notes that the solar industry is in a period of supply-demand rebalancing: expansion along the main chain has slowed, the focus has shifted to optimising existing capacity and destocking, and a higher share of high-efficiency products is the precondition for price recovery. Operating performance is diverging within the chain, with losses at manufacturing links concentrated in polysilicon and modules, while glass, film and equipment makers are improving profitability through cold repairs, output cuts and silver-reduction technology.
