HK Stock Connect Daily Report: Southbound capital records net buy of HKD 2.021 billion, Guotai Junan International privatisation offer at 44.2% premium - 20260810

On 10 August, the three major Hong Kong indices rose with fluctuations, with the Hang Seng Index up 1.05% to 25,937.49 points, the Hang Seng TECH Index up 1.26% and turnover of HKD 240.28 billion. Pharmaceutical stocks strengthened, with WUXI APPTEC obtaining a preliminary injunction approved by a US court; gold and gold jewellery stocks led the gains, with LAOPU GOLD up 12.39% and international gold prices surging over 7% last week; mainland property stocks rebounded, with COUNTRY GARDEN up 8.99%. Optical communication and storage concepts led the declines, with ZJ INNOLIGHT down 6.94%. Southbound capital recorded a net buy of HKD 2.021 billion. I. Market Overview

On 10 August, the three major Hong Kong indices rose with fluctuations throughout the day: the Hang Seng Index rose 1.05% to 25,937.49 points, the Hang Seng TECH Index rose 1.26%, and the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 1.06%. Total daily turnover was HKD 240.28 billion, down from the previous trading day.

On the trading front, pharmaceutical stocks strengthened again, with BIOCYTOGEN-B (02315) up 11.08% and XTALPI (02228) up 7.68%, with sector sentiment continuing to heat up after WUXI APPTEC obtained a preliminary injunction approved by a US court. Gold and gold jewellery stocks led the gains, with LAOPU GOLD (06181) up 12.39% and CHOW TAI FOOK (01929) up 6.63%, as international gold prices surged over 7% last week, the largest weekly gain this year. Mainland property stocks mostly rebounded, with COUNTRY GARDEN (02007) up 8.99%, following the implementation of major new property market policies in Beijing. The movie concept performed prominently, with MAOYAN ENT (01896) up 10.31%. On the other hand, optical communication and storage concepts led the declines, with ZJ INNOLIGHT (03308) down 6.94%.

Southbound capital recorded a net buy of HKD 2.021 billion on the day, of which Stock Connect (Shanghai) posted a net buy of HKD 2.796 billion and Stock Connect (Shenzhen) a net sell of HKD 776 million.

IV. Industry and Corporate Updates

1. Guotai Junan International proposes privatisation and delisting, full offer at 44.2% premium

On the evening of 7 August, GUOTAI JUNAN I (01788.HK) announced that Guotai Haitong Financial Holdings proposes to acquire, by way of a scheme of arrangement, all the ordinary shares of Guotai Junan International other than those held by itself at HKD 3 per share, with a view to privatisation and delisting. The offer price represents a premium of approximately 44.2% over the closing price of HKD 2.08 per share on the last trading day (22 July). Guotai Junan International currently has a total share capital of 9.53 billion shares, with Guotai Haitong Financial Holdings holding approximately 73.9%, and the consideration required to acquire the remaining equity is approximately HKD 7.5 billion. The privatisation is a move to resolve horizontal competition among overseas subsidiaries following the completion of the merger between Guotai Junan and Haitong Securities. Guotai Junan International is an HK Stock Connect eligible stock.

2. WUXI APPTEC obtains preliminary injunction approved by US court; enforcement of 1260H designation suspended during litigation

On the evening of 9 August, WUXI APPTEC (02359.HK) announced that the United States District Court for the District of Columbia ruled on the Company's motion for a preliminary injunction and granted the preliminary injunction sought by the Company. The ruling shields the Company from the immediate adverse effects of the 1260H designation while it challenges the designation in judicial proceedings. WUXI APPTEC filed a lawsuit against the US Department of Defense on 11 June 2026, filed the motion for a preliminary injunction with the court on 29 June, and the court held a hearing on 22 July. WUXI APPTEC is an HK Stock Connect eligible stock.

3. Moonshot AI to complete Pre-IPO financing closing by end of this month, plans to file with HKEX in Q3

According to market sources, Moonshot AI has indicated to certain prospective investors that it plans to complete the final closing of its Pre-IPO round financing on 27 August, with a pre-money valuation of approximately USD 50 billion, and plans to file with HKEX before 30 September, expecting to list by the end of 2026 or Q1 2027. Moonshot AI's domestic entity completed its joint-stock reform on 29 July. If successfully listed, it could become a potential HK Stock Connect target. (Note: the above timetable has not been officially confirmed, and the Company previously denied this month's filing rumours.)

4. KINETIC DEV issues profit alert, H1 net profit after tax expected to increase 31%-40%

On 10 August, KINETIC DEV (01277.HK) issued a profit alert announcement, expecting net profit after tax of approximately RMB 730 million to RMB 780 million for the first half of 2026, up 31% to 40% year-on-year. The growth was mainly driven by an approximately 18% year-on-year increase in average selling prices of coal products following the recovery of coal prices, and a 9% to 12% year-on-year decrease in unit costs under cost control measures. KINETIC DEV has been included as an eligible stock under Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect and Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect since 10 September 2024.

5. Multiple companies including Yuanxin Energy Storage, Baili Tianheng and Zheneng Mailing recently filed intensively with HKEX

A number of companies have recently submitted listing applications to HKEX: according to HKEX disclosures on 9 August, Yuanxin Energy Storage submitted a listing application to the Main Board of HKEX with CMB International as sole sponsor, its second attempt at a Hong Kong IPO; according to HKEX disclosures on 6 August, Baili Tianheng (688506.SH) submitted a listing application to the Main Board of HKEX seeking an A+H dual listing, with joint sponsors including CITIC SEC, Jefferies, CICC and Deutsche Bank; and according to HKEX disclosures on 7 August, Zheneng Mailing submitted a listing application to the Main Board of HKEX, with joint sponsors including CITIC SEC and CMB International.
