III. Industry and Corporate Dynamics
1. MIIT: Core AI Industry in China Surpassed RMB 1.2 Trillion in 2025; Annual Humanoid Robot Production Expected to Exceed 100,000 Units
On July 7, at the press conference for the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) and the High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance, officials from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) stated that, according to estimates, the scale of China's core AI industry exceeded RMB 1.2 trillion in 2025. With the accelerated iteration of LLMs, AI agents, and AI chips, the annual production volume of complete humanoid robots this year is expected to exceed 100,000 units. To date, China has developed nearly 200 key standards in the AI field. Enterprises are actively embracing the open-source paradigm, with LLM download volumes ranking first globally and open-source communities like AtomGit gathering over 11 million registered users. The 2026 WAIC will be held in Shanghai from July 17 to 20, with an exhibition area exceeding 100,000 square meters for the first time and over 300 new AI products making their global debuts.
2. xAI Officially Renamed SpaceXAI, Synchronously Launching New Brand Identity
On July 7, Beijing time, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI was officially renamed SpaceXAI. The original xAI official account on the X platform has completed its username change and released a video showcasing the old logo folding and evolving into the new SpaceXAI emblem. This marks the official brand implementation following Musk's announcement in May to dissolve xAI's independent corporate identity and merge it into SpaceX. In February, SpaceX acquired xAI in an all-stock transaction, bringing the combined valuation to USD 1.25 trillion; in June, SpaceX completed a USD 75 billion IPO, achieving a valuation of approximately USD 1.77 trillion. IPO documents reveal that SpaceX allocated USD 12.7 billion to AI capital expenditures in 2025, a scale more than three times its combined spending on aerospace and connectivity operations.
3. Tencent: Former OpenAI Researcher Yonglong Tian Joins the Large Language Model Department to Participate in VLM R&D
On July 8, it was reported that former OpenAI researcher Yonglong Tian recently joined Tencent's Large Language Model Department to participate in the R&D of Vision-Language Models (VLMs). Tian received his bachelor's degree from Tsinghua University, pursued his master's at the Multimedia Laboratory (MMLab) of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and earned his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) under the supervision of Phillip Isola. He is a core contributor to the open-source project SupContrast. Having previously worked at Google Research, Google DeepMind, and OpenAI, Tian holds nearly 30,000 citations on Google Scholar. Following Shunyu Yao's appointment as Tencent's Chief AI Scientist in September 2025, this marks another instance of the Tencent Hunyuan team recruiting top-tier talent directly from OpenAI's core research team.
