CINDA INTL HLDG stated that Hong Kong stock turnover was 204.9 billion HKD and A-share turnover was RMB 187 million yesterday, both below the January–July averages. As noted in our September 3 Morning Express, "A-share turnover has recently been contracting, making it difficult for a clear trend to emerge"; the same logic applies to Hong Kong stocks, and we maintain our view that Hong Kong stocks lack the momentum for an upward breakout. Affected by the softer US market overnight, Hong Kong stocks are expected to open lower this morning, and should hold above the bottom of the mid-to-late July consolidation range at around 24,800 points.
