HKEX (00388.HK): Group Chief Executive Bonnie Y Chan's Contract Renewed for Three Years, Term to Run to February 2030
NewTimeSpace News: On 17 August 2026, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (stock code: 00388) announced that the board has approved a three-year renewal of the contract term for Ms. Bonnie Y Chan as Group Chief Executive of HKEX, from 1 March 2027 to 28 February 2030 (both dates inclusive). In accordance with section 70(1) of the Securities and Futures Ordinance, Ms. Chan's reappointment as Group Chief Executive of HKEX has been approved by the Securities and Futures Commission.
As Group Chief Executive, Ms. Chan also serves as a member of the board's Standing Committee, the China Business Advisory Committee, the Corporate Responsibility Committee and the International Advisory Committee, and as Chair of the China Commodities Consultative Committee; she is an ex-officio member of the Main Board and GEM Listing Committees of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited (the Exchange) and a member of the Listing Policy Panel, and serves as a director and/or committee member of certain HKEX subsidiaries. Ms. Chan's tenure on the board and its committees will run concurrently with her tenure as Group Chief Executive of HKEX.
Ms. Chan joined HKEX in January 2020 and has served as Group Chief Executive and Executive Director since 1 March 2024. She previously served as HKEX Co-Chief Operating Officer (February 2023 - February 2024), Head of Listing (January 2020 - January 2023) and Head of IPO Transactions in the Listing Division (2007-2010), and was a partner at Davis Polk & Wardwell (2010-2019) and an executive director in the Legal and Compliance Division of Morgan Stanley (Hong Kong) (2003-2007). She holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Hong Kong and a Master of Laws from Harvard University in the United States, and is a solicitor in Hong Kong and the State of New York, United States.
Under the terms of her renewed employment contract with HKEX, Ms. Chan's remuneration package includes a basic annual salary of HKD 12 million, and she is eligible for discretionary performance bonuses and share awards recommended by the Remuneration Committee and approved by the board; as a full-time employee, she is also entitled to other in-kind benefits and participation in HKEX's provident fund. As of the date of this announcement, Ms. Chan has declared that she holds 68,479 HKEX shares and interests in an aggregate of 164,546 unvested award shares of HKEX under the HKEX employee share award scheme (as defined under Part XV of the Securities and Futures Ordinance), and has declared that she has no relationship with any director, senior manager, substantial shareholder or controlling shareholder of HKEX.
