On the news front, US stocks were mixed on November 2: the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.41% to 51,983.98, the S&P 500 fell 0.51% to 7,541.40 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.07% to 25,164.36, while the Nasdaq-100 fell 1.39% to 27,989.82, more than 10% below its high and thus in technical correction territory. The drag came mainly from chips and optical communications: Marvell agreed to acquire Lumentum in an all-stock deal worth about US$115 billion, with Marvell down about 13% and Lumentum about 19%, while Seagate and Western Digital fell more than 7%, SanDisk more than 6% and Micron nearly 6%. Among heavyweights, Apple's fiscal fourth-quarter revenue rose 11.7% to US$114.477 billion, above expectations, but its holiday-quarter growth guidance of 7% to 10% combined with slowing services growth sent the shares down more than 4% after the bell; Palantir's third-quarter revenue rose 96% to US$2.313 billion, with US commercial revenue overtaking government revenue for the first time and full-year guidance raised sharply, yet the stock still fell about 3% after hours. On the macro side, the US October ISM manufacturing index expanded more than expected, with output growth the strongest in nearly five years, and US midterm elections are being held on November 3.

The CSOP NASDAQ-100 Index Daily (-2x) Inverse Product (07568.HK) is a futures-based derivative product under CSOP Asset Management, listed on September 19, 2019, with the investment objective of providing investment results that closely correspond to two times the daily inverse (-2x) performance of the Nasdaq-100 Index before fees and expenses; it does not seek to achieve its stated objective over a period longer than one day. The product uses a futures replication strategy, has the US dollar as base currency and trades in Hong Kong dollars, with a board lot of 100 units, an ongoing charges figure of 1.57% and annual distributions at the manager's discretion.

Morgan Stanley believes that while the Federal Reserve has signalled further tightening, it "lacks urgency", and that last week's market showed a defensive rotation of Treasury gains against technology losses—the two-year to ten-year Treasury spread widened to 34 basis points in a week while the Nasdaq-100 fell 4.8%. The bank reads this as defensive positioning alongside fiscal and energy risk pricing, rather than a full-blown recession trade.
