On November 3, multiple media outlets reported that a Qatari mediation team travelled to Tehran on November 2 to discuss a potential US-Iran deal with Iran's foreign minister, and that Iran's president said his government is pursuing a negotiated settlement and has been authorised by the Supreme Leader — sharply easing concerns over supply disruption through the Strait of Hormuz. Crude prices slumped that day: the December WTI contract settled at US$96.46 a barrel, down 7.36%, while the January Brent contract settled at US$104.77 a barrel, down 7.63%.

F Samsung Crude Oil Futures (03175.HK) tracks the S&P GSCI Crude Oil Multiple Contract 55/30/15-1M/2M/3M Index. The index holds West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX), allocating 55%, 30% and 15% to the first, second and third contract months, and rolls the contracts monthly as they expire to reflect the overall performance of crude oil futures prices. The product is managed by Samsung Asset Management (Hong Kong) Limited, listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on April 29, 2016, with a management fee of 0.65% per year.

Shenwan Futures believes the pullback reflects a repair of risk expectations rather than a settled conflict: the two sides remain far apart on core demands and shipping risks in the Strait of Hormuz have not been eliminated. With OPEC+ production cuts and low global inventories still providing support, oil is shifting into a high-level tug-of-war after the rapid release of risk premium; absent a substantive agreement, the scope for a sustained one-way decline is limited, while volatility will widen markedly.
