HK Stock Connect Daily Report: Hang Seng Index Falls 0.38%; Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges Signal Further Push to Include REITs Products in the Stock Connect Mechanism -20260908

On September 8, 2026, the three major Hong Kong indices opened lower and fluctuated, with the Hang Seng Index down 0.38%, the Hang Seng TECH Index down 1.61%, and the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index down 0.38%. The Hang Seng Index's turnover was HK$206.2 billion. The Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges stated that they will further promote the inclusion of REITs products in the Stock Connect mechanism, actively promote the inclusion of RMB stock trading counters in the Stock Connect mechanism, and explore optimization measures in trading mechanisms, the scope of underlying assets, and investor thresholds.

I. Market Overview

On September 8, 2026, the three major Hong Kong indices opened lower and fluctuated, with the Hang Seng Index down 0.38%, the Hang Seng TECH Index down 1.61%, and the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index down 0.38%. The Hang Seng Index's turnover was HK$206.2 billion, lower than that of the previous trading day.

Among Hong Kong Stock Connect constituents, GENSCRIPT BIO rose 11.87% on its plan to spin off Probio for a Hong Kong listing, possibly to ease redemption pressure; XIAOCAIYUAN rose 9.94%, with an interim dividend payout ratio of 86% and its strategic focus shifting to the dine-in business; SHANDONG MOLONG rose 7.88%, as multiple energy facilities in Saudi Arabia were reportedly attacked and caught fire; INNOGEN-B rose 7.6%, after the company's founder and a number of senior management members made voluntary lock-up undertakings, with the lock-up window period being six months from August 15, 2026. On the downside, PATEO fell 16.87% and TYK MEDICINES-B fell 16.10%, with no publicly available reasons for the unusual moves in the news flow of the two companies; Z.AI fell 10.02%, after the company had its target price cut by Jefferies.

Southbound funds recorded a net purchase of HK$6.128 billion on the day. Of this, Hong Kong Stock Connect (Shanghai) recorded net purchases of HK$3.457 billion, and Hong Kong Stock Connect (Shenzhen) recorded net purchases of HK$2.671 billion.

IV. Industry and Corporate Updates

1. Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges: Promoting the Inclusion of REITs and RMB Counters in Stock Connect

On September 8, at the HKEX China Opportunities Forum, Zhang Bin, Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Shanghai Stock Exchange, said that under the overall guidance of the securities regulators of the two places, the SSE will, building on its existing coverage of stocks and ETFs, further promote the inclusion of REITs products in the Stock Connect mechanism, actively promote the inclusion of RMB stock trading counters in the Stock Connect mechanism, and explore optimization measures in trading mechanisms, the scope of underlying assets, and investor thresholds. At the same event, Wang Shenghui, Director of the Membership Management Department of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, said that the SZSE will work with relevant parties to study and promote the inclusion of more qualified technology innovation enterprises and products in the Stock Connect universe. Yu Xueqin, Head of Market of HKEX, said that the Stock Connect mechanism is moving from trading connectivity toward ecosystem coordination, and that going forward it will enrich the product ecosystem, optimize market mechanisms, and strengthen connections with international markets.

2. Hang Seng Index Series Quarterly Review Results Took Effect on September 7; Hang Seng Index Expands to 95 Constituents

The quarterly review results announced by Hang Seng Indexes Company on August 21 took effect on September 7. The number of Hang Seng Index constituents increased from 93 to 95, with HUA HONG GRACE (01347) and WEICHAI POWER (02338) added; no constituents were removed this time. The number of Hang Seng TECH Index constituents remained at 30, with ILUVATAR COREX (09903) added and TONGCHENGTRAVEL (00780) removed; calculations in the announcement showed that ILUVATAR COREX's index weight after the adjustment is about 0.16%. The number of Hang Seng China Enterprises Index constituents remained at 50, with no changes. The number of Hang Seng Composite Index constituents increased from 534 to 580, with 61 added and 15 removed. The Hang Seng Hong Kong-Listed Biotech Index added DIAGENS-B (02526) and removed HUTCHMED (00013); this change will be implemented after market close on September 11 and take effect from September 14. As of the end of June 2026, the total assets under management of products passively tracking the Hang Seng Index series was approximately USD 106.6 billion.

3. BEFAR GROUP Discloses Interim Results, with Profit Attributable to Equity Shareholders of RMB 373 Million

BEFAR GROUP (06745) disclosed its unaudited interim results for the six months ended June 30, 2026: revenue of RMB 8.260 billion, up about 12.32% year-on-year; gross profit of RMB 1.013 billion, up about 64.14% year-on-year; operating profit of RMB 707 million; profit for the period of RMB 388 million; profit attributable to equity shareholders of the Company of RMB 373 million, compared with RMB 136 million in the same period of 2025; basic earnings per share of RMB 0.19. The company said that the revenue growth mainly came from the stable operation of new units at Binhua New Materials driving an increase in product sales volume, and from the prices of major products such as propylene oxide, allyl chloride, and epichlorohydrin being higher than those of the same period last year.

4. LONGSYS H Shares List on the Main Board of HKEX, with Net Proceeds of About HK$6.803 Billion

On September 8, the H shares of LONGSYS (301308.SZ / 09976.HK) were listed on the Main Board of HKEX, forming an "A+H" dual-listing structure. According to the placing results published on September 7, the final H share offer price was set at HK$236.00 per share; after taking into account the full exercise of the offer size adjustment right, the total number of shares under the global offering was 29,989,450 shares, of which 2,607,800 shares were under the Hong Kong public offering and 27,381,650 shares under the international offering; gross proceeds were about HK$7.0775 billion, and net proceeds after deducting estimated listing expenses were about HK$6.803 billion. The Hong Kong public offering received 36,285 valid applications, with a subscription multiple of 40.32 times; the international offering was subscribed 3.88 times. A total of 14 cornerstone investors were introduced, with aggregate subscriptions of about USD 151 million. About 78.3% of the net proceeds will be used for chip design and high-end storage product R&D, about 11.7% for strategic investments and acquisitions, and about 10% for working capital and general corporate purposes.
