CHINA TAIPING (00966.HK): Appoints Chan Ching Ha as independent non-executive director
NewTimeSpace News: On 25 August 2026, China Taiping Insurance Holdings Company Limited (stock code: 00966) announced the appointment of Ms. Chan Ching Ha as an independent non-executive director of the Company, with effect from 25 August 2026.
The announcement stated that Ms. Chan, aged 70, is a member of the Executive Council of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and a member of the 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th National Committees of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, having served as Chairperson of the Federation of Hong Kong Provincial Political Consultative Conference Members and currently serving as its Life Honorary Chairperson. Ms. Chan currently serves as Senior Advisor of Deloitte China, Senior Consultant of Kaneson Law Firm, Vice Chairman and independent non-executive director of Bank of Communications (Hong Kong) Limited, independent non-executive director of China Overseas Land & Investment Limited and Beijing Tong Ren Tang Technologies Co., Ltd., and has served as independent non-executive director of China Taiping Insurance Group Co., Ltd. and China Taiping Insurance Group (Hong Kong) Limited since July 2022; she is also Chairperson of the Women's Commission and a member of the board of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority. Ms. Chan is a Justice of the Peace of the HKSAR Government and has been awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star, holds an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Victoria, Canada, and is qualified as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of British Columbia, Canada, a solicitor of the High Court of England and Wales and of the High Court of Hong Kong, as well as a China-appointed attesting officer and an arbitrator of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission.
Ms. Chan's appointment is not for a specified term, but she will retire by rotation and be eligible for re-election at the annual general meeting to be held in 2027 pursuant to Article 93 of the Company's articles of association, and thereafter every three years pursuant to Article 97; she will not receive any director's remuneration or other benefits from the Company (save as otherwise determined by the board and the nomination and remuneration committee in accordance with applicable procedures). Ms. Chan has confirmed that she meets the independence criteria set out in Rule 3.13 of the Listing Rules.
