MMG (01208.HK): two workers fatally injured in accident at Las Bambas mine in Peru, operations suspended

NewTimeSpace News: On 19 August 2026, MMG (01208.HK) voluntarily announced that two workers, including a contractor employee, were fatally injured in an accident at the Las Bambas mine in Peru on 18 August while replacing water pumps at a purification pond, with three others injured; as a precaution, mine operations have been suspended and are expected to gradually resume from 21 August.

NewTimeSpace News: On 19 August 2026, MMG Limited (stock code: 01208) announced in a voluntary announcement that Mr. Richard José Flores Rhea and Mr. Tony Nilson González Challa tragically passed away on 18 August (Tuesday), Peru time, at the Company's Las Bambas mine in Peru. Mr. Flores was an employee of the Las Bambas mine and Mr. González was an employee of the contractor SINAR Perú S.A.C.; both suffered fatal injuries in an accident while replacing water pumps at a purification pond approximately nine kilometers from the Las Bambas concentrator. Three other workers involved were injured and are receiving medical treatment.

According to the announcement, MMG's CEO Mr. Zhao expressed deepest condolences on behalf of MMG, stating that the Company will immediately investigate the accident and provide support to the families of the deceased and injured workers, as well as psychological counseling and support services for mine employees. As a precautionary measure, activities related to the affected area have been suspended and the Las Bambas mine has ceased operations, expected to gradually resume from 21 August.
