The incident happened on the afternoon of June 9, 2026, when a partial fire occurred during maintenance work at the above-mentioned plant located in Australia. The fire was extinguished in a timely and effective manner. All personnel on site were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported. A small number of individual devices were damaged, yet major equipment and production lines were unaffected.
Talison has activated its emergency response plan and launched an investigation into the incident. The company is assessing the losses, impacts and required restoration work.
The expansion project of Talison's Phase 3 chemical-grade lithium concentrate plant was completed and commissioned on December 18, 2025. After preliminary commissioning, it produced the first batch of qualified chemical-grade lithium concentrate on January 30, 2026. This incident may somewhat hinder the plant's production ramp-up. The operation of Talison's other operating lithium concentrate plants remains unaffected.
