Khen Energy Secures Second BESS Project Award in Sri Lanka,Total Capacity Reaching 20MW/80MWh
NewTimeSpace News: On March 23, 2026, the board of directors of Khen Energy issued an announcement disclosing that its wholly-owned subsidiary WKV obtained the second letter of award from Sri Lanka's NSO on March 20, for a standalone 10MW/40MWh BESS project (the Second BESS Project), with the core of the project being the construction, ownership and operation of the energy storage system. The total capacity of BESS projects secured by Khen Energy has now reached 20MW/80MWh.
Khen Energy stated that its current renewable energy portfolio already includes mini-hydro power plants, ground-mounted solar power plants and energy storage systems, and this project will further enrich the diversity of the portfolio.
The announcement indicated that the Second BESS Project is required to achieve commercial operation within nine months from the signing of the energy storage agreement, which is expected to be executed within one month upon acceptance of the letter of award. The project will be funded through a combination of internal resources and external financing.
