On the news front, data from the People's Bank of China show that China's gold reserves stood at 77.47 million ounces at the end of September, up 740,000 ounces (about 23 tonnes) from a month earlier — a 23rd consecutive monthly increase and the largest monthly addition in the current buying cycle. Data from the World Gold Council meanwhile show that global gold ETFs took in about US$10 billion of net inflows in September, lifting holdings by 67 tonnes to a record 4,256 tonnes.
The CSOP Gold Futures Daily (2x) Leveraged Product (07299.HK) is a derivatives product under the CSOP Leveraged and Inverse Series II that is based on futures and swaps, and seeks investment results that closely correspond to twice the daily performance of the Solactive Gold 1-Day Rolling Futures Index before fees and expenses; it is designed only for daily performance and is not intended to be held for more than one day. The product uses no more than 20% of net asset value as margin to invest in COMEX gold futures, no more than 20% as the initial amount for swaps, and keeps no less than 60% in US dollar cash and US dollar-denominated investment products. Its management fee is 1.5% per year, and the board lot is 100 units.
UBS believes the recent hawkish repricing is largely reflected in the gold price; gold has stabilised in the US$4,140–4,200 per ounce range, and a sustained retreat in US Treasury yields from their highs would be more conducive to a recovery in gold prices; the recent decline was driven mainly by non-commercial accounts cutting their net long positions in gold futures and options, and gold's sensitivity to changes in real interest rates may be weakening.
