On the news front, appetite for high-dividend assets has continued to build. On October 13 that a number of existing dividend funds issued purchase-cap notices after the National Day holiday, with several capping daily subscriptions at RMB1 million; as of October 12, total assets of dividend funds in the Chinese market had exceeded RMB420 billion, reaching RMB422.807 billion, up 20.58% from a year earlier, with 54 such products newly launched this year. Market analysts attributed the trend to capital rotating out of high-flying technology shares into low-valuation dividend plays, reflecting short-term risk aversion and a style rebalancing.
CSOP FTSE East-West Equity Select ETF (03441.HK) closely tracks the FTSE ETF Connect East-West Succession Equity Select Index (net total return version). Designed under the HKEX ETF Connect framework, the index allocates about 65% of its weight to the 23 largest Hong Kong-listed high-dividend stocks eligible under Southbound Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Connect and 35% to the top 100 large-cap US stocks selected by free cash flow yield; it is weighted by freefloat-adjusted market capitalisation, with weight caps of 65% and 35% for Hong Kong-listed and US-listed securities respectively.
Morgan Stanley believes that ahead of the US third-quarter earnings season investors should stay with quality US stocks whose earnings per share keep improving, saying valuation de-rating has created a better entry point for quality cyclicals; the market is increasingly favouring companies with upward earnings revisions, strong free cash flow and resilient profits, while the real risk lies in another sharp rise in real yields triggering bond-market volatility.
