Biotech Index Hits a Year-to-Date High as Innovative Drug and CXO Names Rally; CSOP Hang Seng Biotech ETF (3174.HK) Gains 3.18% and Is Up 17.93% Year-to-Date
On performance, the fund returned 17.93% year-to-date, 20.54% over 60 days, 9.58% over 120 days, 8.28% over 20 days and 5.84% over 5 days, while its 250-day return was -0.74%, a marked divergence between long and short horizons: its NAV rose 75.81% in 2025 (against +74.99% for the index) but fell for three consecutive years in 2022-2024 (-27.35%, -30.65% and -20.06% respectively), reflecting a full down-cycle for the biotech sector. Constituents rallied across the board on October 6: GENSCRIPT BIO rose 6.88% to HKD 48.78, a record high, WUXI BIO gained 4.51%, AKESO 4.06% and SBP GROUP 4.05%, while ZAI LAB and ASCENTAGE climbed more than 8%.
